Primary Election

📅 April 16: Deadline for change of party affiliation for the Primary Election

📅 April 19: Commencement of mailing of mail-in ballots for Primary Election

📅 May 20: Voter registration deadline for the Primary Election

📅 May 28: Mailing of sample ballots for Primary Election

📅 June 3:

  • Deadline to apply for a mail-in ballot by mail for the Primary Election

  • Deadline for Unaffiliated voters to declare a party affiliation in order to receive a mail-in ballot by mail for the Primary Election

📅 June 3 – June 8: Early Voting Period

📅 June 9 – by 3:00 p.m.:

  • Deadline to apply for a mail-in ballot in person for the Primary Election

  • Deadline for Unaffiliated voters to declare a party affiliation in order to receive a mail-in ballot in person for the Primary Election

📅 June 10: Primary Election Day. Polls Open from 6 am - 8 pm.

General Election

📅 September 20: Commencement of mailing of mail-in ballots for the General Election

📅 October 14: Voter registration deadline for General Election

  • Register by mail or online (forms must be postmarked by this date).

📅 October 22: Mailing of sample ballots for the General Election

📅 October 25 - November 2: Early Voting Period

📅 October 28: Deadline to apply for a mail-in ballot by mail for the General Election

📅 November 3 by 3:00 p.m.: Deadline to apply for a mail-in ballot in person for the General Election

📅 November 4: General Election Day. Polls open from 6 am - 8 pm.

3 ways to vote

There are three ways to vote in NJ elections:

1) In person on Election Day. Find your polling place here.

2) Vote by Mail – fill out and print a Vote By Mail Ballot Application (see below).  Mail it in a regular mailbox or at the Post Office.

When you receive your ballot, complete it carefully, and place it in the Drop Box at the Hilton Library Branch, 1688 Springfield Ave, Maplewood, NJ, or any drop box in Essex County.
